Babe is a 9 year old Paint mare that suffered a terrible accident the first part of
March 2006 when she fell out of a horse trailer traveling down the highway.
She arrived at our place on March 18, 2006. She had received initial
Veterinary care but the day to day care was just too much for her previous
owners.
March 2006
When we started out with Babe it was taking about two hours every morning
and evening to clean her up and tend to the wounds. I am happy to say that at
this point she is progressing well. A lot of the soreness is gone and the
wounds are healing. It's going to be a long, long time until the wounds cover
and infection, flies, and the Florida sun are going to be our biggest enemies.
But, with some Divine intervention, a lot of help and guidance from our
Veterinarian and a lot of TLC on our part she will recover. She may never win
the Kentucky Derby and some of the scars may not be pretty but she has a lot
of heart and a tremendous will to live and we are going to see to it that she
gets that chance.

February 2007
February 18, 2007 - OK, I've been encouraged to keep up the posting on Babe. It's been a month
since the last pictures and as they show she continues to heal. There is still one spot on the rear
hip that doesn't want to cover completely but we are still seeing some small particles of grit work
their way out of there. I guess in a little more time it will heal on it's own and it doesn't seem to
bother her or is it tender to touch. She has come a long, long way. It will be a year next month...
Babe, Dorie and I would like to thank everyone for their support during the past months. Without
everyone's help, prayers, and donations we would not have been able to do what we did with Babe.
Thank you everyone, you don't know how much we appreciate everything. Keep an eye on our web
site, we'll have some babies starting in March.
It's always hard to thank everyone that has helped for fear of forgetting someone but there are
some very special people that are helping us. First, Kyra Smeller, KAS7 Ranch. Kyra has been our
best friend for a long time now and without her Babe would not have come here. Kyra, you don't
know how much this has meant to Dorie and I. Thank you! Next, our Veterinarian, Dr. David
Wilkinson, for his support and donations of supplies. Doc, without you we would not be where we
are now with Babe. Doc's staff, especially Cheryl and Beverly, who are always there when we need
help. Thanks for being our friends. EMT Gel, thank you for your kind donation. Purina Mills for
their donation of feed. Randy Summerlin, Summerlin Feed and Fence, Davenport FL, for his kind
donations. Cattlemen's Feed and Ranch Supplies, Polk City FL, for their kind donation of supplies.
Keith Riggin and Nu-Stock, thank you very much. Deb in Arizona, I told you, you didn't have to do
that - thank you very much! Donna and John, we really appreciate your donation to the "Babe
Fund". Julia, Larry, Pam, Jim and Janette, and Toni, very special people to us, for their most
appreciated donations and more important, their friendship. And to Mike in Texas, thanks for all the
history on Babe, and the very much appreciated telephone conversations. Without everyone's help
and support we would not be able to do what we have done for Babe.
